Chery Tiggo, Toyota Rav 4, Hyundai Tucson: Learn, Learn and Learn
The Japanese auto industry is seven decades old. Korean is a quarter of a century younger. The Chinese are just getting up “on the wheels.” Is it possible to catch the difference in education on the example of specific cars? It is painfully great temptation to save, while not losing in quality!
Cherie-Tiggo from China is 50% cheaper than Japanese RAV4! Even if you give up Hyundai-Tussan in favor of Cherie, there will be enough money for a long vacation in hot countries. Or is it better to spend them on study?
China is in a hurry to pass all exams externally and be in the lead. Where does this speed come from? Perhaps the Chinese are learning not so much from their own mistakes as from others’ mistakes and successes?
The basis of such assumptions was the “Cherie-Tiggo”: yes, the car was copied from the previous-generation Toyota-RAV4 … but is it so bad? A picture of the learning process appeared in my head. With a new Toyota, a young Chinese spins his wings and removes the hood – body builders will investigate them. Door panels, buttons, handles are taken away for detailed study by designers by his no less inquisitive colleague … And so the car is taken apart to the last screw. To do everything no worse than the Japanese! And so to the 112th anniversary of Mao! This is, of course, a joke.
However, an impartial examination does not give grounds for irony. “Tiggo” assembled with dignity, as evidenced by the quality of color and pairing body panels. Hiding from the November wind in the salon, I immediately found in “Cherie” a lot of little things familiar from other brands. Although the interior is a little disappointing – the instrument panel is made of hard plastic, the ventilation vents hang loosely in the air ducts, the leather dressing leaves much to be desired …
Noise haunts travelers, no matter what road the Tiggo moves at whatever speed. At the first moment it seems as if the door did not fully stand in the opening or the glass is not closed. And with the fastest possible acceleration, the engine performs the main part.
“Chery” equip license motor “Mitsubishi” 2.4 liter capacity and 129 hp, which, against the backdrop of competitors all-wheel drive “Tiggo” enough barely. After 5000 rev / min, “twisting” the engine is almost useless, and up to 3000 it is frankly lazy.
Cross-country qualities are very modest – in the transmission with an automatic electromagnetic clutch connecting the rear wheels, not even a forced lock is provided. If there is snow porridge under the wheels, and the terrain makes it slow down to a snail, Tiggo tries to stall. You have to play with the clutch: probably, after such experiments, a shiver appeared when you started moving. Ground clearance is limited by the exhaust system bellows at a height of 155 mm. When trying to hang out the car, the plastic creaked ominously, and the doors began to open poorly.
But on a slippery surface, the “Chinese” demonstrates a docile nature: if you go into a turn a little faster, it slides outside with all four wheels, and under the gas discharge it will smoothly go into a skid. On a straight line, returning to the trajectory the “Chery” who has strayed off is easier than ever – push harder on the accelerator. Only be careful with the steering wheel: it is sharp enough, but it is not informative.
More recently, I had a different opinion about the “Chinese.” It seemed that they would catch up with Korean cars in five to seven years. Now I think there will be enough three for them – the Celestial auto industry is learning, learning, learning …

On a hard surface, it transfers 100% of the thrust forward, and in the event of a slip, the viscous coupling moves up to 50% to the rear wheels. In especially difficult situations, the 4WD Lock button is useful.
Once, Koreans bought from their eastern neighbors licenses for the production of aggregates, copied design and design methods. Those times are over – “Tussan” was created on the “Elantra” passenger platform, and this is not the first independent development of Koreans. “Tussal” is perceived as a rather heavy, solid car. Reactions to a wheel are late a little and do not differ in accuracy. The suspension cope with unevenness easily and naturally, and the reserve of energy intensity allows you to relax.
